The N.C. Department of Transportation has officially named Trevor Carroll as the new Division Engineer for Division 3, responsible for the state's southern coastal counties. Carroll steps into the role following the retirement of Chad Kimes, a long-standing figure within the department who ended his service on August 30 after dedicating over three decades to the NCDOT. Carroll expressed his commitment, saying, "It is an honor to serve our citizens and work alongside a dedicated team," as reported by the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
Carroll isn't new to the transportation scene. He brings experience from the private sector to the table, having joined NCDOT back in 2010. With a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology from UNC Charlotte under his belt, he has steadily climbed the ranks within the department. Carroll's role prior to this promotion was that of Deputy Division Engineer, where he has presumably been able to significantly influence and to contribute to both construction and maintenance initiatives.
The transition has placed Carroll at the helm of a series of ongoing projects within Division 3, encompassing Brunswick, Duplin, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender, and Sampson counties. His leadership is expected to continue the trajectory charted by his predecessor, ostensibly aiming to better the transportation network within this coastal region. With challenges such as coastal erosion and hurricane impacts perennially at the forefront, Carroll's role assumes not just a technical, but also a socio-environmental significance.
Carroll's appointment is important because infrastructure plays a key role in Carolina's economy and social well-being.
