An Oakland County man has been charged with serious offenses related to the possession of child pornography, authorities report. Kyle Robert Breitinger, age 37, of Troy, faced arraignment on Thursday with the prosecutor's office laying six counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material against him, as presented in a news release by FOX 2 Detroit.
The investigation began after a critical tip from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children was shared with the Michigan State Police, which led to the troubling discovery. The connection drawn between the explicit material and Breitinger was made through his phone number, the device in question reportedly containing numerous illicit images and videos of minors. According to ClickOnDetroit, the defendant's phone was searched after the tip was taken significant action.
"Any allegations involving the sexual exploitation of children are deeply troubling," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald stated, per a MidMichiganNow report. She stressed the gravity with which her office regards these charges and the commitment to securing justice for victims. Breitinger, if convicted, faces a felony that carries with it a sentence of up to 10 years imprisonment and/or fines totaling up to $50,000.
The Court set Breitinger's bond at $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear for a probable cause conference on October 8, before Judge Hartig in the 52-4 District Court.
