Tragedy struck a Brazoria County family yesterday evening when a house collapse resulted in two fatalities and left five others injured. The incident occurred as the family was attempting to level their home using jacks and other equipment. According to the Houston Chronicle, a call came yesterday about a home in the 2000 block of County Road 49 in Angleton, where several family members were trapped beneath the structure.

The collapsed home claimed the lives of a 17-year-old teenager and a 31-year-old adult, as per details provided by the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office. First responders, who were urgently called to the scene, managed to rescue five of the family members, employing chainsaws and axes to navigate through the wreckage. The FOX 26 Houston reported that four were airlifted in critical condition while one was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and has been stabilized.

The Sheriff's Office has continued to look into the incident but has indicated that there does not appear to be any criminal activity involved, pointing to an accident. Among the seven family members who were either injured or killed in the collapse, four were teenagers ranging from 15 to 17 years old. "First responders worked to free those trapped beneath the structure, using chainsaws and axes to cut through the floorboards," mentioned a report by FOX 26 Houston.

As for the current condition of the injured, the Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office has noted that all but one, a 15-year-old boy who is critical and undergoing surgery, are now listed in stable condition. Despite the initial chaos and the severe outcomes for some, detectives do not believe there was any foul play.
