Yesterday, Sterling Heights police engaged in a high-speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle, culminating in a dramatic crash and the arrest of two teens. Authorities reported that officers, alerted by the department's Flock camera system, initiated the chase when a stolen black Kia was spotted on Metropolitan Parkway near Van Dyke Avenue. The young suspects, both 16 years old and from Detroit, led officers on a reckless chase through residential areas and back onto main roads, at times hitting speeds of up to 100 mph, driving against traffic, and shutting off the vehicle's headlights in attempts to evade capture. The incident ended when the driver lost control of the Kia and crashed into a building at 44011 Van Dyke in Utica, as reported by Audacy.

Following the crash, the three occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee on foot, with officers managing to quickly apprehend two of them. "They took off on foot running in different directions," said Capt. Mario Bastianelli, spokesperson for the Sterling Heights Police Department, in a statement obtained by FOX 2 Detroit. The third suspect succeeded to temporarily elude police, but law enforcement officials are actively pursuing leads to secure his arrest. The two teens in custody are currently being held at the Macomb County Juvenile Detention Center while they await charges.

Capt. Bastianelli expressed the department's commitment to public safety and lauded the effectiveness of the police response. "Due to the outstanding, pro-active policing by our officers, a stolen Kia was recovered and two dangerous suspects were taken off the streets," Bastianelli told The Detroit News.

Despite the harrowing circumstances of the chase, no injuries were reported among the public or the police. The damage to Paris Glass, the building the suspects' vehicle crashed into, has not been detailed. Meanwhile, the Sterling Heights police continue to encourage the at-large individual to surrender himself. "If he was smart he’d turn himself in," Bastianelli stated, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit. "We’re going to know who he is because we have his buddies in custody, we’re going to figure it out real quick." The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to bring the final suspect to justice.
