Two individuals sustained injuries last night in a collision involving a City of Washington police cruiser and an SUV. According to a WPXI report, the incident occurred at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Hall Avenue. Images from the scene showed the police vehicle upended and the SUV damaged against a pole.
The crash, occurring just before the 11 p.m. hour on Wednesday, prompted a lengthy presence of emergency response units that attended to the wreckage and the injured, as detailed by WTAE. The driver of the civilian car, with injuries deemed severe enough to necessitate air transportation, was flown to UPMC Presby. Yet, the specifics of their condition remained unclear as authorities maintained their work untangling the scene's aftermath.
Amid the tumult, the police officer involved was also subjected to harm, though their injuries permitted transport by ambulance, as confirmed by Washington Mayor Jo Jo Burgess, according to WPXI. However, after relieving an undoubtedly tense situation, Burgess shared that the officer had since been released.
