A Superior Court jury found two men guilty of the murder of 10-year-old Makiyah Wilson and an associate guilty of obstruction of justice. U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and MPD Chief Pamela Smith announced the verdict. Mark Price, 30, and Antonio Murchison, 31, both members of the "Wellington Park crew," were convicted of first-degree murder while armed and conspiracy to commit a crime of violence. Quanisha Ramsuer, 31, was convicted of obstruction of justice, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.
The incident occurred on July 16, 2018 when Price, Murchison, and three already convicted accomplices opened fire in the Clay Terrace neighborhood. Over 50 shots were fired in the courtyard, where Makiyah Wilson was sitting on her home's front porch and was tragically killed among several others wounded. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office release, eyewitnesses were initially unwilling to identify the shooters; however, the government presented incriminating forensic evidence, social media communications, and motive.
Ramsuer, reportedly a longtime associate with the Wellington Park neighborhood, refused to identify individuals she was seen interacting with on video surveillance prior to the shooting. The footage showed her with defendants as they prepared for the attack and with one who orchestrated but remained behind the scene. Her persistent refusal to name the culprits contributed to her conviction for obstruction of justice.
With the guilty verdicts in place, the sentencing hearings for Price, Murchison, and Ramsuer have been set for December 13. The Metropolitan Police Department, alongside the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia spearheaded the investigation into Wilson's murder, and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Laura Bach and Natalie Hynum undertook the prosecution and trial efforts.
