Two Worcester men face a raft of gun-related charges following a dangerous vehicular pursuit. The incident began on Monday night, when a Worcester Police officer pulled over a car on Quinsigamond Avenue for running on a revoked registration, as reported by the Worcester Police Department.
Behind the wheel was 22-year-old Pedro Echevarria Junior, with 20-year-old Isaiah Small riding as a passenger. In revoking the vehicle, Echevarria was asked to exit the vehicle. He responded, allegedly, by speeding off, hitting and running over an officer's foot in the process. The injured officer later received a hospital evaluation. Echevarria's flight from the law didn't end until his car came to a forced stop on Russell Street, near Elm Park, as per the official report.
Upon searching the vehicle, a working firearm appeared in plain sight, improperly stored behind the driver's seat. Echevarria and Small, both unable to present a valid license to carry firearms in Massachusetts, were taken into custody, according to the official police report. The Crime Scene Unit was summoned to secure the weapon.
Pedro Echevarria Junior faces charges that include possession of a large capacity firearm and carrying a loaded firearm without a license, as well as motor vehicle offenses and assault on a police officer. Isaiah Small similarly faces firearms charges, including possession of a large capacity firearm and carrying a loaded firearm without proper storage. The Worcester Police Department's swift response ensured that no further harm came to the public as a result of this high-speed chase.
