Customs and Border Protection officers at the Progreso Port of Entry have detained a man on an outstanding warrant for a sex crime involving a minor. The arrest took place on September 3, when 64-year-old U.S. citizen Miguel A. Gaytan was sent for a secondary inspection at the Donna International Crossing. According to a press release by CBP, during the check, authorities were able to confirm Gaytan's identity and discovered the warrant issued by the San Juan, Texas Police Department for Sex Offense Against a Child – Fondling.
"This trio of arrests underscores CBP’s commitment to working together with our state and local law enforcement partners to help keep our communities safe," Port Director Walter Weaver stated on CBP's official website. The vigor of the CBP officers' diligence, especially after two similar cases during the holiday weekend, points to an ongoing effort to arrest individuals accused of offenses against minors. Gaytan, now in custody, awaits adjudication for the crimes he's alleged to have committed.
The National Crime Information Center (NCIC) is key in facilitating such apprehensions, as it allows agencies to share crucial information, including outstanding warrants. CBP officers frequently utilize this resource to aid in capturing individuals wanted for various offenses, such as homicide, robbery, and child sexual abuse. While the NCIC plays a critical role, it is important to remember as the CBP press release indicates that criminal charges are simply allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
