A section of Pleasant Plains Road will be closed between Old Monroe and Potter roads. The shutdown is expected to commence next week, provided the weather conditions are favorable. It's a key part of a larger $9 million intersection improvement initiative, one that's intended to ease traffic flow and enhance pedestrian safety.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has confirmed that the closure will involve the installation of new turn lanes on approaching intersections, updates to existing traffic signals, and the addition of sidewalks paired with curb and gutter improvements. In an effort to manage the temporary disruption, a detour route will be clearly signposted along Old Monroe and Potter roads, which will re-connect commuters back with Pleasant Plains Road. Residents should note that local traffic will maintain passage during this period.
This strategically planned upgrade, awarded in March as per the North Carolina Department of Transportation, is projected to enhance the current infrastructure significantly. It aims to address both vehicular and foot traffic concerns by offering a refined roadway system that's been overdue for enhancements.
Contract stipulations dictate the closure must not exceed a duration of 30 days, a timeframe the department is committed to maintaining. The overarching project bears a completion date set for spring 2026, with the final touches on the surrounding vegetation earmarked to continue into the fall of 2026. Detailing the schedule, the North Carolina Department of Transportation has taken a proactive stance in ensuring that travel interruptions are kept to a minimum during the course of the construction.
