Tim Ballard, the founder of the anti-trafficking organization Operation Underground Railroad (OUR), has had another lawsuit against him dismissed by a Utah court. This suit, brought forward by former employee Suzanne Whitehead, alleged emotional distress and accused the organization, along with Ballard and Utah’s Attorney General Sean Reyes, of deceitful practices. According to KUTV, the dismissal signifies another legal hurdle OUR and its founder have seemingly overcome.
Amid the multiple lawsuits OUR and Ballard faced, this dismissed case included serious accusations regarding the manipulation of a young girl's story for fundraising purposes. In a detailed account from Fox13, Whitehead recounted how an anecdote of the young Nepalese girl had been distorted, stating, "If those guys think that they're going to get a ton of money from you? They're going to find you some 12-year-old girls, whether they've been trafficked or not!" She further explained that "My name was tied to things that weren’t true," mentioning a specific instance where a story was "sexed up with all this extra stuff," as per Fox13.
Even though one lawsuit has now been laid to rest, the allegations surrounding Ballard remain complex, with an intricate web of testimonials and accusations that continue to develop. ABC4 reports that Ballard has been accused of sexual misconduct by half a dozen former OUR employees. Out of the several civil suits that OUR has faced, three are still proceeding through the courts, with two others having been dismissed, as detailed by ABC4.
