Breaking past a significant number since the upheaval of a global health crisis, The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) reported a record-high enrollment for the 2024 academic year. With the student body soaring to over 25,000, UTEP has marked a notable milestone, affirming the university's rebound and growth in the current post-pandemic educational landscape.
Within these rising numbers, UTEP welcomed 3,918 new freshmen, marking an increase over the preceding year. “UTEP offers a great education at a price families can afford,” UTEP President Heather Wilson said, as obtained by KTSM. She further highlighted the fruits borne of hard work and a degree from UTEP, opening doors "to all kinds of opportunities." This return to pre-pandemic enrollment levels underscores a resurgence of interest in the institution's offerings.
An additional mark of success for UTEP is observed in the university's persistence rates. According to KVIA, "Undergraduate spring-to-fall persistence is up 1.4% from last year, reaching 85.7%." This figure represents an all-time high for UTEP, showcasing enhanced efforts in supporting students through their educational journey.
Significant growth has also occurred within UTEP's College of Engineering. Now boasting an enrollment of 5,064 students, the college has crossed the 5,000 threshold for the first time, a more than 8% increase since the last academic year. Amanda Vasquez-Vicario, Ph.D., vice president for enrollment management said, as per UTEP Newsfeed, "The increase in persistence rates is a clear indicator that our students are receiving the support they need to remain on track and complete their degrees." These enrollment figures suggest a burgeoning reputation and increased appeal of UTEP's engineering programs among prospective students.
