An unusual pursuit unfolded in downtown Vancouver as a man, later identified as Teragouchi, held what looked to be a firearm to his head, leading police on a chase through the city on an electric bicycle. The ordeal began outside the Clark County Jail yesterday evening when Teragouchi approached a deputy's patrol car and began yelling, as reported by KOIN.

Escalating the situation, the man made his way into the jail's sally port just before the security doors closed. Still, with the gun against his head, the man was able to exit the sally port after a short standoff with the deputy, who had tried to negotiate with him, according to KATU.

Teragouchi, donning camo pants and a motorcycle jacket continued his apparent suicidal display on the exterior of the courthouse complex. He then mounted an electric bicycle, helmet on head, and what was believed to be the gun still pressed to his temple, weaving through downtown Vancouver. Clark County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) and Vancouver Police Department (VPD) units responded to contain the man, but as KATU noted, the e-bike’s agility allowed Teragouchi to break containment multiple times.

The chase took a dangerous turn as Teragouchi was pursued by police vehicles down the Burnt Bridge Creek Trail system. There, a shelter-in-place order was issued in a half-mile radius around the trail, denoting the severity of the threat posed not only to Teragouchi but also to the community, KPTV reported. SWAT units eventually managed to arrest him along the trail.

It was then discovered that the weapon in Teragouchi's possession during the tense encounter was a pellet gun. Following his capture and a hospital evaluation to determine his state, Teragouchi was booked on one count of possession of contraband inside a correctional institution. This information was provided by KPTV, shedding light on the nature of the weapon that added to the already fraught incident.
