Vice Chairman Anthony Rodriguez is set to host the second annual Stand Down event in an effort to honor and support American veterans and active-duty military personnel. Slated for November 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the resource fair will take place at the Miami-Dade County Fair & Expo Center's Fuchs Pavilion, offering a variety of services and activities for veterans, active military members, their families, and the public.
At this community-centric gathering, attendees can engage in a military-themed obstacle course designed for high school and ROTC participants. Additionally, the event provides practical support for homeless veterans including free haircuts, showers, and meals. Families are able to connect with over 80 various agencies providing vital resources, according to an advisory published by Miami-Dade County. Furthermore, a county court session with county judges will be in session, hearing cases across a range of topics.
The Stand Down, free and open to the public, will also feature music, food trucks, and military vehicle exhibits. It serves as a hub for veteran families to learn about services from key organizations such as the DMV, Social Security Administration, U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, among others. These organizations are dedicated to bridging the gap between veterans and agencies that can sometimes seem out of reach.
