A weekend gathering at The Big E turned chaotic when a fight broke out, leading to injuries and subsequent arrests on Saturday, as reported by the West Springfield Police Department. The altercation occurred on the fairgrounds, traditionally a place of merriment and unity, disrupted by violence as multiple law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene.
According to the West Springfield Police Department, James and Levi Stanley were apprehended near Gate 8 of the fairgrounds. The siblings, now facing multiple charges including Disorderly Conduct, Malicious Destruction of Property, and Assault and Battery, were quickly arrested as they attempted to flee the scene.
Shortly after 5 PM, a large contingent of officers from various departments converged to Industrial Avenue in response to reports of a violent scuffle. The police's swift response helped to contain the situation, with ensuing medical attention being provided to those in need. Some of the victims were transported to Bay State Medical Center, highlighting the physical toll of the confrontation.
As the West Springfield Police Department later clarified, upon searching James Stanley, he was found to have stolen items from at least one of the victims. This detail led to an additional charge of Unarmed Robbery for James, firmly grounding the criminality of the actions that transpired. Both brothers were also issued letters of trespass, ensuring that their presence would not again pose a risk to the celebratory spirit of The Big E.
