West Tennessee drivers should brace for a series of construction projects that are expected to impact traffic from September 25 to October 2. According to the Tennessee Department of Transportation, multiple counties will experience temporary lane closures to allow for road resurfacing, bridge repairs, and construction projects.
In Benton County, I-40 is slated to undergo resurfacing from S.R. 69 to the Humphreys County line, with an advisory on nighttime temporary lane closures. Meanwhile, SR 391 will also see lane closures due to resurfacing efforts between US 70W and US 70E. Motorists are advised to remain vigilant and allow for extra travel time to seamlessly adapt to these changes.
Carroll County's SR-76 is facing a comprehensive overhaul including grading, drainage, noise walls, signals, and paving work—likely to cause disruptions. Additionally, Dyer County's SR-20 will be narrowed down to one lane in each direction for bridge repairs, a predicament that began back in April 2023 with speed limits reduced to 55 MPH.
There will be outside lane closures on SR-211 in Dyer County for bridge inspection and evaluation starting August 9. Simultaneously, I-155 is going to be resurfaced, from the Mississippi River Bridge to the vicinity of the Rest Area, a task that includes bridge expansion joint repairs. This is projected to cause further temporary lane closures, demanding patience from the daily commuter.
For those in Gibson and Carroll Counties, the construction on US 79 (SR 76) will also be introducing temporary lane closures due to bridge construction and noise wall installation. Local access changes include Barker Road's closure at the new SR 76 construction and the transformation of N. Jax Road into a dead-end road. Drivers should follow detours through Church St. until Jax Road is reopened, with S. Jax Road remaining accessible via Oasis Rd.
Finally, in Henry and Weakley Counties, SR-22 will undergo resurfacing using a hot in-place recycling method, affecting traffic up to SR 217, whereas Obion County's SR22 will see resurfacing that extends from SR5 to SR21, inclusive of bridge joint repairs.
