A Winter Haven man, Raysheio Black, 24, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for his alleged involvement in a violent armed robbery. He faces charges of Hobbs Act robbery, using a gun during a crime, and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. If convicted on all counts, he could face at least seven years in prison, with the possibility of a life sentence.
In February, three masked individuals with semi-automatic pistols entered a convenience store in Plant City and demanded cash from the clerk. They quickly stole money from the register, and surveillance cameras recorded the incident. The footage later identified a black SUV as their getaway vehicle, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.
Black’s previous felony conviction complicates his situation as he faces these new charges. The Hobbs Act, designed to target racketeering, is used by federal prosecutors to address robberies that impact interstate commerce, giving federal authorities jurisdiction over what might otherwise be a state matter.
Black's indictment shows that federal authorities are serious about tackling violent crime. If convicted, he will face a mandatory minimum sentence with no leniency, and his federal sentence will be added on top of any other prison term he might have. The U.S. Attorney's office has provided details about the indictment and the charges against him.
The case against Black is ongoing, and his guilt will be examined in court. He is entitled to a fair trial, and the legal system will work to determine the truth and enforce the law.
