A routine tree-cutting job in northeast Oklahoma City escalated into violence yesterday, leaving one worker injured and one homeowner in custody, following a shooting near Britton Road and Alexis Lane. As reported by OKC FOX, the altercation began when two workers, hired to remove trees, were fired upon from an adjacent homeowner who believed the workers were on his property.
The Oklahoma City Police Department explained that the gunfire came from a homeowner who confronted the workers while they were inside their truck, the homeowner subsequently shot towards them, striking one of the workers twice. The other worker escaped physical harm. In the process of committing the act, the homeowner was also shot, News 9 described the aftermath of the incident with one individual being sent to a hospital and the shooter taken into custody by police.
Details on the condition of the shot tree cutter were provided by KOCO, noting that the man was hit twice and was reported to be in stable condition at OU Health. The suspected shooter's confrontational response to a perceived property encroachment led to their arrest, the name and further details of the suspect have yet to be released to the public.
The local authorities have not commented on whether any previous disputes between the homeowners played a role in the shooting, investigations are continuing as officials piece together the events that led to this dangerous escalation.
