Early Friday morning saw a sweep of arrests in Kyle, Texas as local police took into custody ten Texas State University students. The group is accused of pilfering Halloween decorations from a neighborhood known for its festive spirit. According to the City of Kyle's official release, the incident occurred around 12:48 a.m. on Hometown Parkway, sparking an investigation that quickly led to the suspects.
Authorities were able to promptly locate the alleged culprits by reviewing video footage that caught the suspects in the act, paired with a description of their vehicle. A silver Ford F-150 was found by Kyle police, fitting the given details with the stolen goods openly visible inside. The apprehended individuals ranged in age from 18 to 20 and were found alongside masks, presumably used to conceal their identities. According to FOX 7 Austin, all ten admitted when questioned that they had come to Kyle with the express aim to steal Halloween decorations.
The investigation revealed more than just stolen festive paraphernalia; the police also discovered THC, alcohol, and a fake ID within the vehicle. Charges brought against the students include Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, Criminal Mischief, and Theft of Property. Kyle's Chief of Police, Jeff Barnett, emphasized community safety and holiday cheer in a statement released by the City of Kyle's communications page, declaring, "We will not tolerate actions that jeopardize the safety and holiday spirit of our community members."
Among the arrested, two individuals face additional charges. Nico Jordan Lawrence, 20, is being charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Brayden Randall Golden, 20, for possessing a False Driver's License/ID. These charges come atop the collective list of allegations that all are slated to confront.
