A 17-year-old boy has been apprehended in relation to a shooting incident near a Pompano Beach high school, during which two people were injured. According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, the arrest of Nicolas Yves Achille took place last Friday following a tip-off that helped detectives close in on the teenager from Plantation, as reported by WSVN.
Deputies were called to the 1200 block of Northwest Sixth Avenue on the evening of October 5, at approximately 9:45 p.m., near Blanche Ely High School where a football game was occurring, not connected with the shooting outside the school grounds, where the arrest was made. One of the injured was found at the scene, receiving life-saving measures prior to being taken to a local hospital, as conveyed by NBC Miami. A second victim, also suffering from gunshot wounds, but transported to the hospital by Lauderhill Fire Rescue, ultimately survived their injuries, classified as non-life-threatening.
The investigation's progress saw relevant authorities, including BSO's Violence Intervention Proactive Enforcement Response (V.I.P.E.R) and Fort Lauderdale Gun Intelligence Unit, serve an arrest warrant in Fort Lauderdale. It was with the assistance of a Crime Stoppers lead that allowed detectives to pinpoint Achille. He is now charged with two counts of attempted murder in the first degree and is being processed at the Juvenile Assessment Center.
"The teen was taken into custody when a search warrant was served," officials from BSO stated to NBC Miami, clarifying the circumstances of the arrest conducted by specialized units tasked with apprehending him. Even though the event occurred near Blanche Ely High School, no evidence was brought forward indicating a connection to the football game or the school. Both agencies involved have emphasized the separation of the tragic event from the wider school activities, an incident that transpired outside the purview of the school’s responsibility, encapsulated by the football game.
