Early Tuesday morning, an 18-wheeler was in an accident on Interstate 35 South near New Laredo Highway, leaving it hanging off a bridge. The crash happened just before 6:15 a.m. and caused traffic delays back to Somerset Road. Authorities closed all main lanes to address the situation, according to KSAT.
According to News 4 San Antonio, the driver of the 18-wheeler lost control due to slick road conditions from early morning rain. This caused the vehicle to jackknife and go over the side of the bridge. The driver was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
San Antonio police are investigating the accident, causing significant traffic disruption for thousands of drivers. There is currently no information about what caused the driver to lose control or the status of the vehicle extraction. "This is a developing story," confirmed KSAT, which will provide updates as new information is available.
