Violence erupted yesterday when a drive-by shooting at an east-side Detroit apartment complex left an 18-year-old dead and a 19-year-old wounded, according to local authorities. Detroit Police responded to a report of gunfire at approximately 12:30 p.m. in the area around Fenelon Street and Nevada Avenue, as confirmed by Detroit Police Cmdr. Rebecca McKay, as per The Detroit News.
The 18-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene, whereas the 19-year-old was rushed to the hospital in stable condition. The incident occurred outside the Sojourner Truth Homes apartment complex, not far from the Detroit Police Department's 11th Precinct, as reported by WWJ Newsradio.
As of now, there have been no arrests, and investigators are seeking to identify a motive and the individuals responsible for the crime. Details concerning the suspect or the vehicle involved have not yet been made public. In regards to the investigation, "The investigation is in its preliminary phases, we have so much more work to do," McKay said, as reported by The Detroit News. At this point, the motivations behind the shooting remain obscured.
