A tragic incident unfolded on the Northwest Side of San Antonio on Friday night, where a 27-year-old motorcyclist was fatally injured after a collision with a car. As reported by KSAT, the crash occurred around 9:24 p.m. in the 6500 block of Babcock Road at the intersection with Spring Time Drive.
The motorcyclist, identified as Mark Reyes, was navigating his silver 2017 Yamaha motorcycle southbound when a red 1979 El Camino, driving northbound, turned left onto Spring Time Drive and the collision occurred. In a grim turn of events, while being treated for his injuries by EMS, Reyes was pronounced dead at the scene. Despite the medics' valiant efforts, they were unable to save his life.
Additional details from a San Antonio Police report mentioned by MSN confirm that the collision was severe enough to cause life-threatening injuries, from which Reyes did not recover. The timing of the accident, around 9:20 p.m., highlights the dangers of late-night driving.
The incident raises questions about road safety and the responsibilities of drivers making turns across traffic lanes. However, the San Antonio Police have indicated that the El Camino's driver was not under the influence of any intoxicating substances at the time of the accident. No criminal charges are pending in this case, creating a complex picture of tragedy without clear culpability but filled with sorrow for the loss of a young life so brutally ended on the asphalt beneath the unforgiving streetlights.
