A road rage incident in Catawba County on Saturday afternoon has resulted in murder and attempted murder charges against 75-year-old Terrell Eugene Giddens of Sherrills Ford. The Catawba County Sheriff's Office responded to a call near the intersection of Island Point Road and Northview Harbour Drive, where they discovered a man dead from apparent gunshot wounds. QC News reports that witnesses observed the altercation escalate after both men exited their vehicles.
Further investigation revealed that the victim's car contained his three children, ages 2, 11, and 13, who fortunately were not physically injured during the incident. According to WCNC Charlotte, Giddens allegedly fired several shots into the victim's vehicle. Eyewitness descriptions of the suspect and his car quickly led authorities to Giddens' residence, where he was arrested on the same day of the shooting.
Giddens now faces one count of murder and three counts of attempted murder. The Catawba County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Giddens was taken into custody and is currently being held with no bond. WBTV notes that Giddens is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Monday, October 14. As of now, the identity of the deceased has not been released to the public.
The community is reeling from the violent turn of events that took place on an otherwise uneventful afternoon. The fact that three children nearly came to share a tragic fate only compounds the gravity of the case.
