79-Year-Old Cedar Springs Man Seriously Injured After Being Struck by Van in Greenville

A 79-year-old Cedar Springs man is in the hospital after this morning's accident involving a vehicle in Greenville. The incident occurred on South Lafayette Street near East Cass Street around 7:20 a.m. today, WOODTV reports.

The Greenville Department of Public Safety confirmed that the pedestrian was struck by a southbound 2011 Toyota Sienna minivan. The driver, a 45-year-old Greenville resident, was reportedly cooperating with the investigation. Although initially responsive, the injured man soon turned unresponsive at the scene, according to officials cited by WZZM13.

First responders were able to revive the man, regaining his pulse, before he was transported to a local hospital. Subsequently, for further care, he was transferred to a different hospital in the Grand Rapids area. The man's condition at the time of the transfer was not specified in the reports.

While the crash remains under investigation, WZZM13 indicates that toxicology results from the driver are pending. However, initially, alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash. "The crash is still under investigation by GDPS," the department confirmed, reiterating the driver's cooperation during this critical phase. Greenville's Department of Public Safety has not yet released further details regarding the cause of the incident or any charges that might be filed against the driver.
