An 85-year-old Orlando woman's life came to a tragic end Monday when she was struck and killed by an SUV in the parking lot of a Dollar Tree store. According to ClickOrlando, the incident occurred around 12:46 p.m. on Silver Star Road, just shy of Pine Hills Road. The women had been exiting the store as the vehicle was attempting to secure a parking spot.
As described by the Florida Highway Patrol, the Mercedes-Benz GLA driver, a 68-year-old woman also from Orlando, hit the curb before the vehicle continued to plow southward. After this initial impact, the vehicle collided with the pedestrian before crashing into the Dollar Tree store's façade. The FHP indicated that the exact reasons for this erratic driving sequence are still under investigation.
WESH provides additional confirmation that after the woman was struck, she was immediately transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where, sadly, she was declared deceased.
The FHP continues to piece together the events that transformed an ordinary moment in a parking lot into a lethal tragedy, and the investigation remains ongoing.
