Akron Mayor Shammas Malik, a figure known for breaking barriers in the city's leadership, exchanged vows with Alice Duey in a setting by the Cuyahoga River last Saturday. As The Akron Beacon Journal reported on Instagram and shared, Mayor Malik said, "It’s been the joy of our lives to fall in love with each other and to now take these next steps as husband and wife." In addition, the mayor expressed gratitude for the support during a joyous personal milestone.
Alice Duey became fiancée to Mayor Malik earlier this year when he proposed by the Seine in Paris, beneath the historic Eiffel Tower. The nuptials followed a period marked by both a personal and professional ascendancy for Malik, who, at the beginning of this year, took office as Akron's youngest and first person-of-color mayor. His wedding photos, eluding a sense of communal celebration, were made available on various social media platforms, as per FOX8 News.
The newlyweds and their guests proceeded to EJ Thomas Hall to dance and revel in the matrimony after the ceremony. This intimate detail was announced on Mayor Malik's office's social media, according to WKYC. The celebration was reportedly surrounded by family and friends who shared in their joy. The mayor's gratitude was echoed across social media, where users extended their congratulations and well-wishes for the newlyweds' future together.
