In a recent development for Anne Arundel County's educators, the Board of Education has given the green light to a significant agreement with the Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County. As reported by FOX Baltimore, this new deal is set to bring forth a wave of compensation increases, including a career ladder for teachers and a salary scale specifically for middle school athletics coaches.
The provisions of the agreement include a step increase for eligible Unit I employees and a 3% cost-of-living adjustment for all Unit I employees, encompassing teachers and school counselors, among other positions. The school district is also looking to set up a pay scale for middle school athletics coaches, aiming to get into the swing of things quickly come spring. "I am so pleased that we have reached this point and are able to provide increases to our amazing teachers and counselors," Board of Education President Robert Silkworth stated, per WBALTV.
The career ladder, part of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, is expected to be rolled out by July 1, 2025. This new system is organized into four levels, from Level 1 to Level 4, each marking an enhancement in professional skills and responsibilities. As teachers climb this ladder, their compensation will see corresponding increases.
