Anoka County is once again leading with vibrant hues, turning its buildings green from Nov. 4-11 for Operation Green Light for Veterans, an initiative to honor the service and highlight the challenges faced by military veterans, according to an announcement on the county's official website. The statement explains that by changing the color of their lights, they aim to show support and increase awareness about the resources available for the nearly 20,000 veterans residing in Anoka County.

Chair of the Anoka County Board of Commissioners, Mike Gamache, expressed in an official press release, "The goal is simple—to show support for our military veterans and spread awareness about the unique challenges they face and the resources available to them and their families," showcasing the county's commitment by encouraging local residents and businesses to join in. It is a symbolic gesture but one they believe shows veterans they are appreciated and not forgotten, despite the everyday bustle that tends to overshadow such recognitions.

As a part of this solidarity action, green lighting will illuminate the Government Center on the west side along 3rd Avenue, and Anoka County is inviting the broader community to participate by switching out one light bulb in their homes or storefronts for a green one. The significance of this act is to acknowledge the sacrifices veterans have made, and this small change is seen as a means to honor that service publicly.

Aligned with these efforts, Anoka County sustains support for veterans through multiple avenues. There's the county Veteran Services Office, veterans court, the Medlink volunteer driver network, among other initiatives focused on improving the lives of Anoka County's veteran population, and veterans will be at the forefront until Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 11. For details on how to participate in Operation Green Light, residents and businesses can visit the county's official website.
