
A 52-year-old Arizona woman lost her life early Saturday morning when she was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross C-470. The Colorado State Patrol is currently investigating the incident, which took place on the westbound lanes close to Golden in Jefferson County, as reported by Denver7. The fatal crash occurred around 6:30 a.m., though the reasons behind her crossing at that time and location remain unclear.
According to KDVR, there were concerns that the crash could have been a hit-and-run incident. However, subsequent reports, indicated the driver of the Chevy Suburban involved in the collision remained at the scene. They are currently "cooperating with law enforcement", as the Colorado State Patrol indicated. The identity of the deceased will be released following confirmation by the county coroner's office.
This tragic incident comes within the context of fluctuating pedestrian fatalities in the state. According to data released by the Colorado Department of Transportation and cited by the Denver Gazette, there have been 77 pedestrian-automotive deaths in Colorado from January 1 through October 17 this year. This is a noticeable decrease when compared to the same period last year, which saw 99 such fatalities.
