The Arlington Police Department is currently investigating a devastating car wreck that claimed the lives of two individuals earlier this week. As reported by the City of Arlington, a 2006 Jeep Commander was discovered early morning on Sunday, engulfed in flames after veering off the road.
Responding to the emergency in the wee hours, specifically at 2:55 a.m., officers were called to the 3600 block of W. Division Street. Found at the scene, the Jeep had struck a metal light pole and a tree before it was fully consumed by fire, making the identification of the remains a grim task for authorities. The fiery scene, which the Arlington Fire Department promptly extinguished, left the vehicle and the bodies in a state that identification was not immediately possible.
An investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of the crash, with officials piecing together the vehicle's last moments. According to their initial findings, the Jeep was headed eastbound on Division Street when it inexplicably left the roadway. Having collided with the light pole, the vehicle did not stop there but continued on its fatal trajectory before finally coming to rest against a tree and catching fire.
The procedures following such tragedies are underway, as the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office is charged with the responsibility of naming the deceased. Once identification is established and the families of the involved are notified, their names will be released to the public.
