Arlington residents can expect significant financial savings thanks to a newly approved $16.6 million loan aimed at enhancing the city's wastewater management. This low-interest loan, sourced from the Texas Water Development Board's Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF), is designed to underpin two crucial infrastructure projects that will help preserve the region's waterways. The expected savings on finance costs, as compared to the market rates, are estimated to be nearly $5 million throughout the loan, a financial reprieve for taxpayers.
The necessity of these projects is underscored by the precarious state of existing sanitary sewer mains that are currently vulnerable to erosion and potential collapse. One of the projects, the Shadow Drive Sanitary Sewer Main Replacement, will replace approximately 2,800 linear feet of sewer main using trenchless technology to reduce ground disturbance. The other, the Kee Branch Sanitary Sewer Main Relocation, seeks to avert a systemic failure by redirecting the flow from Kee Branch to a more secure pathway.
According to the City of Arlington, Texas, "the lower interest rate offered by the TWDB will result in savings of $4,945,647 over the lifetime of the loan". This represents a substantive fiscal advantage for the community, lessening the burden on ratepayers and enhancing the city’s financial stewardship.
