A fatal shooting occurred on Wednesday morning, during an armed robbery involving an armored truck near a Kings Mountain ATM. A Loomis Fargo Truck employee was servicing the ATM at the Prescriptions Plus Pharmacy on East King Street when the incident took place. Police received a call around 8:45 a.m., with reports of a man found unconscious and later declared dead at the scene, having sustained at least two gunshot wounds, WBTV reports.

The identity of the victim has not been released, pending family notification. Witnesses at the scene conveyed to WSOCTV that they heard shots fired, and while a Loomis truck was parked near the ATM, there was no immediate clarity regarding the amount of money, if any, was stolen. A large duffel bag was also seen on the ground.

Investigating officers have identified a dark-colored SUV as a possible suspect vehicle, it fled the scene shortly after the shooting. Kings Mountain Police Chief Gerald Childress has reassured the public that despite the suspect being at large, they "should feel as safe as can be," as quoted by WBTV's coverage of the news conference.

The FBI has been contacted to assist with the investigation due to the nature of the crime. The victim was wearing a body camera at the time of the incident, and investigators are currently reviewing the footage.
