An Assonet man, identified as Brendan D. Nunes, 23, was arrested on a slew of charges including rape and assault, Freetown Police Department announced. The arrest occurred on Friday, October 11, 2024, following an investigation by Massachusetts State Police Troop D Detectives and Freetown Detectives Shane Kelley and Christopher Medeiros. Freetown Police Department shared the arrest details via social media.
Nunes faces severe allegations, which include drugging for sexual intercourse, strangulation/suffocation, intimidation of a witness, and three counts of assault and battery. Following the warrant for his arrest, Nunes was taken into custody without any issues and currently resides at the Bristol County House of Corrections with a bail set at $50,000 cash. Police Chief Scott M. Rose, in a statement, expressed the department's commitment to thorough investigations and accountability, "Our officers, working closely with the Massachusetts State Police, demonstrated strong investigative work that led to this arrest," Rose noted, "This case reflects our commitment to thoroughly investigating serious crimes and holding offenders accountable."
The information was initially released to the public via Facebook post by Freetown Police Department's Public Information Officer, Lieutenant Benjamin A. Levesque. Nunes is scheduled for arraignment on the following Tuesday at Fall River District Court.
