The search for an attempted homicide suspect in San Joaquin County ended abruptly when the suspect escaped into an orchard after a vehicle chase. The pursuit began around 7 p.m. near Interstate 5 and Ben Holt Drive when deputies tried to pull over the suspect, wanted for an attempted murder in Calaveras County. The suspect refused to stop, leading authorities on a chase that ended off Highway 26 near Fairchild Road, according to KCRA.
During the chase, the suspect and a passenger abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot into a dense orchard. Officials reported that the passenger was quickly caught, but the driver, the main suspect, escaped. A search perimeter was set up at Fairchild and Beecher Roads, but the search was called off around 10 p.m., with the suspect's location still unknown at that time., Fox40 added to the reports.
During the initial phase of the manhunt, the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office described the search as a "high-risk traffic stop" which began to unfold around 8:30 p.m., indicating the perilous state of events as they pressed the community to remain vigilant and steer clear from the affected areas asking residents to "stay alert and avoid the area if possible until further notice," as reported by Fox40.
