A North Austin community is reeling from a tragedy that left 16-year-old Ahsun Madison dead. Madison's family is now demanding justice following the shooting last month. Madison was shot at the Pathways at Northgate Apartments on Northgate Boulevard, allegedly on his way to Walmart. His mother, Andrea Coleman, told FOX 7 Austin in a heart-wrenching statement, "I’m to pieces. How am I going to make it through this? Is this real? Is this a dream? Man."
Expressing their anguish, Madison's parents shared that their son was bullied for years because of his sexuality. "He's more free-spirited. He likes arts. He likes different things than the average boy," the victim’s father, Devin Madison, explained, as reported by FOX 7 Austin.
The suspect in this disturbing case is another teenager, 16 years of age, whose identity remains protected due to his juvenile status. He was arraigned and charged with first-degree murder. Previously implicated in multiple shootings, including a homicide earlier this year, the suspect was out on probation at the time of Madison's death. Det. Nicholas Gebhart of the Austin Police Department said in an interview with FOX 7 Austin, "During this investigation, I've been investigating several different juveniles and, in my experience, I haven't seen it like this before, but there does seem to be a high amount of violent crime being committed by juveniles in that North Austin area."
Authorities stated that the suspect, whose name has not been released due to his age, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He has been booked into the Gardner-Betts Juvenile Justice Center, as detailed by CBS Austin.
