Last week, a fatal collision between a passenger vehicle and a truck tractor on State Highway 71 claimed the life of an Austin driver, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The crash, occurring early in the morning on Oct. 18, was responded to by DPS at around 7:13 a.m., as KXAN reports.
Officials state that the driver of a 2024 Kia, disregarding a red light while turning right onto the highway, struck a truck tractor's trailer. Identified as Tracy Daspit of Austin, the driver of the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene by DPS. In a tragic twist of events, the collision that ended Tracy Daspit's life unfolded when their Kia collided with the truck tractor while they were innocently turning onto the highway, as per information provided by DPS and FOX 7 Austin.
The truck tractor driver, involved in the fatal incident on the southwest Austin road, remained at the crash location and cooperated with investigating authorities. Details provided by DPS indicate that the Kia was eastbound on Thomas Springs Road prior to the crash, and the truck tractor was in the outside lane heading south on SH 71.
The next of kin was notified following the accident, and as of Tuesday, DPS continues to actively investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. Staying on the scene, the driver of the truck tractor cooperated with the investigators, ensuring all necessary information was provided to DPS, as noted in their statement.
