A recent traffic collision at an Austin intersection has claimed the life of a local man, marking the city's 70th fatal crash this year. The Austin Police Department responded to the scene at the intersection of East US 290 HWY SVRD WB and East Parmer Lane in the early hours of October 4th, according to official reports.
Guillermo Lagunas-Hernandez, identified as the driver involved in the single-vehicle collision, was transported to a local hospital following the incident. Despite medical efforts, Lagunas-Hernandez succumbed to his injuries, passing away on October 6th.
With this latest fatality, the number of lives lost in Austin traffic incidents this year has risen to 75—a slight increase compared to 72 fatalities resulting from 69 fatal crashes by this same date last year. The Austin Police Department's ongoing investigation into this latest tragic event underscores the continuous growth of vehicular tragedies in the area.
The Vehicular Homicide unit at APD is actively seeking information from the public concerning the crash that led to Guillermo's untimely departure. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the APD or submit a tip anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program. This encouragement comes off of the back of the department's plea to understand better the circumstances befalling the deceased in such incidents that continue to scar the city's memory with unnerving regularity.
