The Austin Police Department (APD) is making strides in the realm of public safety with its Sex Offender Apprehension and Registration (SOAR) Unit's latest clampdown on sex offenders. By keeping a vigilant eye on compliance, the SOAR Unit is prioritizing the accuracy of the sex offender registry and the safety of Austin's residents. Their recent operations have led to many arrests and highlighted potential areas where offenders fall short of their legal duties.
Since the turn of the year, the SOAR Unit has made it to actively conduct residence checks and follow-up investigations to ensure registered offenders aren't sidestepping their obligations. As reported by a recent announcement from the City of Austin, these efforts demonstrate the department's resolve to maintain a vigilant stance for the sake of community well-being.
Expressing the APD's stance, Sergeant Meson Woo stated, "In our ongoing mission to enhance community safety, we emphasize accountability among registered sex offenders. The success of our efforts is a direct result of the dedication and teamwork of our SOAR personnel." Woo added that their work is "often behind the scenes," as stated by the City of Austin.
The Austin Police Department encourages the public to play an active role in this effort. Anyone with information about a registered sex offender who may not be reporting accurately should contact the SOAR Unit at (512) 974-6280 or send an email to [email protected].
