On the late evening of October 26, a collision claimed the life of a pedestrian in Austin's 4500 block of S IH 35 SVRD NB, as initially reported by the City of Austin. The Austin Police Department informed that the incident, which involved a single pedestrian and a vehicle, resulted in the pedestrian's death at approximately 11:21 p.m., marking the city's 73rd fatal crash of the year, with the total number of fatalities now standing at 78.
It has been noted that by the same date in 2023, statistics reflected a total of 74 fatal crashes resulting in 77 fatalities, emphasizing an unsettling trend of roadway perils that seem to persist despite efforts to combat them; the driver of the vehicle, who was not injured, stayed on the scene and, according to both the KXAN and city officials, is "cooperating with the investigation" into the incident.
