
Officials from the Austin Police Department have released a video that may provide key evidence in the ongoing investigation of a homicide case. The victim, Nathan Ockleberry, a Black male born on November 9, 2006, was tragically killed on October 1, during the early morning hours. According to the department's update, the suspect in connection to Ockleberry's death is depicted in the newly released footage.
The suspect has been described as a Black or Hispanic male, believed to be in his late 20s to early 30s. Notably, he was last seen wearing a white baseball cap, and a dark hoodie, during the time of the incident. The Austin Police is actively seeking information and encourages anyone who may recognize the individual or have any relevant information to contact them at 512-974-TIPS. Incentives for cooperation have been set, with a reward of up to $1,000 offered for any information that leads to an arrest, facilitated through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program.
On that fateful morning at around 2:40 a.m., APD officers were dispatched to 12636 Research Boulevard following reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found two males with gunshot wounds, one of whom was the young Nathan Ockleberry, pronounced deceased at the scene at 3:01 a.m., per the official press release. The second injured male was transported to a local hospital by Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS), and a third male with non-life-threatening injuries was later identified.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists were assigned to scrutinize the scene and conduct interviews with witnesses. Through their investigation, it was determined that a large group had convened in the parking lot, which ultimately escalated into a disturbing shooting, consequently, Nathan Ockleberry lost his life. The suspect then fled the scene in a vehicle. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is ongoing, and the police statement emphasizes the need for public assistance in apprehending the perpetrator.
