
Austin was confronted with its 50th homicide of the year following a stabbing that occurred in the 6000 block of N IH 35 SVRD NB. The event took place on Friday, October 4, at the time of 10:18 a.m., as reported in an official statement from the Austin Police Department (APD). The victim, an unidentified male, sustained multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead after being transported to a local hospital.
The suspect, in this case, was apprehended by the police shortly after the incident took place. Todd Wimberly, a 31-year-old white male, was found by officers walking along the frontage road still in possession of a knife, with blood on his person, and clothes. Witnesses at the scene were able to provide descriptions that led to his arrest. Despite initial compliance, Wimberly became combative during the apprehension process and is now being booked on the charge of 1st Degree Murder as stated in the police report.
The Austin Police Department has deployed homicide detectives and crime scene specialists to investigate the crime scene and interview witnesses. The preliminary investigation suggests that Wimberly stabbed the victim in the roadway before walking away from the scene. The motivation behind the act remains undisclosed at the current stage of the investigation.
