Austin's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM) is stepping up to ensure residents are ready to handle any emergency with a new Preparedness Pop-Up event. Scheduled for October 16 at the Twin Oaks Branch Library from 4-7 p.m., the pop-up is crafted to inform and equip the local community with crucial survival tools and knowledge. According to the City of Austin, the first 25 visitors will be given an emergency supply kit limited to one per household.
This initiative is a part of HSEM's monthly series, which organizes pop-ups in each City Council District on the third Wednesday of each month. Aimed at helping the Central Texas community to better prepare for disasters, these events offer a chance to not only learn but also to actively gather supplies to put preparation plans into action. At the event, essentials valued over $100, including lanterns, glow sticks, personal cooling supplies, and items geared toward children and pets, will be provided, as per the City of Austin.
Residents interested in taking advantage of these free resources can find more details, including a full event schedule at ReadyCentralTexas.org, as detailed by the City of Austin.
