Tragedy struck at an apartment complex on Northgate Blvd. on Monday evening when officers responded to a shooting that claimed the life of a young Black male. The Austin Police Department reported, that in the incident that happened at around 8:20 p.m., officers found Ahsun Madison with a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after at 9:01 p.m., marking the city's 48th homicide of the year.
The investigation quickly pivoted to identify the person responsible. A 16-year-old Hispanic male, previously out on bond for other shootings, including one earlier this year not involving Ahsun Madison, was apprehended by the Austin Police Gang Detectives and charged with first-degree murder. In this year alone, the suspect had been involved in multiple shootings in the area, as detailed by official statements from the police department.
The Austin Police have called upon the community to come forward with any information. "Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS," the department's announcement read. Tips can also be provided anonymously through the Capital Area Crime Stoppers Program, with a potential $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
