
The streets of Austin were marked with tragedy this past August, as a stolen vehicle crash in the 6800 block of Hart Lane claimed the life of a local teenager, Andrew Fonseca Reyes. The Austin Police Department has since conducted a thorough investigation, recently resulting in the arrest of Jeremy Josue Giron Hernandez, identified as the driver at the time of the crash. This incident, which took the life of 16-year-old Reyes, is now being prosecuted as a homicide, as informed by official statements from the City of Austin.
In the early hours of a fateful Wednesday, Reyes was transported to a hospital with critical injuries sustained from the crash, unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries the following day. Giron Hernandez, along with two other passengers, fled the scene, leaving Reyes behind, which led to an intense investigation by APD's Vehicular Homicide Unit culminating in the progress achieved in this case, reported by KVUE.
An arrest warrant for Giron Hernandez was filed on October 1st, and by October 8th, the suspect was detained in Williamson County, addressing the culmination of this tragic vehicle fatality which took place on August 7th, and mark Austin's 55th homicide of the year, the previous source also narrated the sequence of events.
While the Austin community mourns the untimely loss of Reyes, the Austin Police Department continues to appeal to the public for any information they might have concerning the fatal incident.
