Miramar is dealing with the aftermath of a shooting in a residential neighborhood, prompting a significant police response and an ongoing manhunt for the suspect. Multiple agencies, including the Miramar Police Department, are on the scene west of the Florida Turnpike and are urging residents to stay indoors due to the situation's seriousness.
The incident, which unfolded yesterday, began when a suspect reportedly confronted a woman at her home, inquiring about her children. Upon her refusal and quick action to secure her house, the man fired several gunshots into the air before fleeing in his SUV, according to a Local 10 report.
Shortly after the shooting, Miramar Police began a pursuit that ended with the gunman abandoning his vehicle and fleeing behind nearby homes, where he exchanged gunfire with a homeowner. Fortunately, no one was injured in the confrontation. As described by MPD Chief Delrish Moss, who pointed out, “We have the bad guy’s car,” he said, “We are still looking for him,” during a statement obtained by Local 10.
Officials have described the gunshots as an intimidation tactic, but no casualties have been reported. As of 8 p.m., police are still searching for the gunman, and residents are encouraged to provide any information to Broward County Crime Stoppers, according to a report by WSVN.
The Miramar Police Department has established a command post and closed westbound lanes on Miramar Parkway as they, along with other agencies, search backyards and streets for the still-at-large gunman. Anyone with information is encouraged to call 954-493-TIPS to assist local law enforcement.
