According to the Baltimore Sun, the decision to lockdown came after a public safety team received a phone call at around 11:15 a.m. from an individual claiming to have seen "five to seven males dressed in all black with duffle bags exchanging weapons." Baltimore Police later received a similar tip, prompting them to investigate thoroughly.
The college swiftly went on to activate their lockdown protocols to ensure the safety of everyone present. An update on BCCC's Facebook post advised the campus community to "continue to shelter in place" while authorities assessed the situation. "Baltimore City Police and Public Safety continue to investigate, there is no active shooter or reports of injuries," the post stated, indicating that the college was taking all necessary precautions seriously to deal with the potential threat swiftly, as reported by FOX Baltimore.
The lockdown was lifted in the afternoon after Baltimore Police found the tip false. Campus operations returned to normal, and the alert eased.
