In a significant crackdown on child sexual exploitation, the U.S. District Court handed down a stern sentencing to a Baltimore man involved in a grim scheme to solicit and distribute sexually explicit materials. Eugene Edward Golden, 38, has been sentenced to 45 years in federal prison followed by a lifetime of supervised release. As reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office, the sentence was given for conspiracy to commit sexual exploitation of a child and for two counts of sexual exploitation of a child. Golden pleaded guilty to producing and transmitting visual depictions of the sexually explicit conduct involving minors.
The grim details of Golden's operation emerged during the trial. According to the guilty plea, starting as far back as 2019, Golden scoured dating and prostitution websites to find women willing to create and send him images and videos of children engaged in sexual acts. According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Golden had these women produce content abusing at least 12 children, whose ages ranged from approximately one year to 13 years old. In exchange for these atrocities, he offered financial compensation. Investigators have uncovered over 100 images and videos attributable to Golden's solicitation, along with a large cache of other child pornography material.
Golden's activities didn't unfold in isolation. Six co-defendants were identified, all of whom responded to Golden's requests by producing and distributing the abusive content. Furthermore, the investigation led by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Maryland State Police identified more individuals involved in similar exploitation, which brought more cases to light and the rescue of several minors.
