Bellevue's usual monthly average of DUI cases hovers around 24, and the spike to 36 represents not just a statistical anomaly, but a communal hazard, Bellevue police are ramping up their enforcement and outreach efforts, and with the holidays on the horizon, they imploring citizens to consider the well-being of all, Chief Wendell Shirley stated, "There is no excuse to driving under the influence. If you are impaired, grab a sober ride home. It’s that simple." said Chief Wendell Shirley in a plea aimed at mitigating the careless queerness of drunk driving, stated by the Bellevue Beat Blog.
The staggering nature of DUI incidents is part of a larger narrative of roadway safety that Bellevue is taking seriously, as part of the King County Target Zero Task Force, the department is partnered with several stakeholders in an attempt to quash traffic fatalities and serious injuries aligning with the city's Vision Zero initiative set to achieve this very objective by 2030, therefore educational outreach and stringent enforcement inhabit the core of Bellevue's road safety strategy.
