A Beverly Hills obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Barry J. Brock, is at the center of a legal storm following the filing of a lawsuit by more than 30 former patients, who are accusing him of sexual abuse and other claims. As reported by FOX LA, the lawsuit lodged at the Los Angeles Superior Court alleges that Brock was involved in sexual assault, battery, harassment, and gender violence throughout his more than 40-year career at various medical facilities, including Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
The legal complaint, which seeks unspecified compensatory and punitive damages, accuses Cedars-Sinai of knowing about and covering up Brock's alleged misconduct. A Cedars-Sinai representative stated, "The type of behavior alleged about Dr. Barry Brock is counter to Cedars-Sinai's core values and the trust we strive to earn every day with our patients," emphasizing that Brock has since lost his privileges to practice at Cedars-Sinai and that the matter has been reported to the California Medical Board, as detailed by CBS News Los Angeles.
The numbers of alleged victims continue to grow, with a more recent figure being 35 former patients who have joined the lawsuit. Attorney Anthony T. DiPietro asserts that Cedars-Sinai enabled and concealed Brock's abuse instead of protecting their patients. "But instead of protecting its patients, the only thing Cedars did was lie, gaslight, and help cover up Brock's crimes—while exposing a countless number of unsuspecting patients to a known serial sexual predator," DiPietro told CBS News Los Angeles. Brock allegedly informed patients of his retirement amid an internal investigation by Cedars-Sinai, yet this occurred after his suspension from the hospital earlier this year following multiple patient complaints.
