An off-duty deputy from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, assigned to traffic control duties, was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene this morning, according to reports from local authorities.

The incident happened near the 10700 block of Wurzbach Road, close to Vance Jackson Road at around 7:30 a.m., leaving the deputy with injuries after the hit-and-run driver made their escape; despite being stabilized by emergency services the deputy did, in fact, receive cuts to his head, this according to a KSAT report.

In a statement obtained by KENS5, the Sheriff's Office indicated that "crew workers rendered aid and called for medical services in the moments after. The deputy is stable and sustained injuries related to the crash." This acknowledgement of the immediate response from on-site workers underscores the swift action taken in the wake of the event.

Officials said another driver tried to intervene by blocking the suspect's vehicle, which allowed the deputy to get off the hood and though the driver managed to flee the scene before law enforcement arrived, a vehicle suspected to be involved in the incident was later located at a nearby apartment complex, in spite of this the driver has yet to be found, with BCSO and San Antonio police continuing their search within the complex.
